Monday June 24th: Opening Ceremony

Monday, June 24th

The camp was officially opened with an Opening Ceremony put on by the Latvian teachers and helpers. The Americans had a special surprise for the campers to celebrate 20 years of camp in Latvia, canvas bags and bracelets.
Thoughts from the campers of Wisconsin: "Yesterday I go to the American camp. She is very funny and fantastic!"
"Opening ceremony was beautiful with the theater, songs and dance. It was an amazing first day of camp!"

The campers got to spend time with their homerooms to get to know each other and their teachers better.
"The camp atmosphere is so friendly."

Then the campers participated in Friendship Day and did a little sing-a-long to end the day.
"It was fun- singing with no sheets, so we were trying to remember some old songs. It was funny to watch Kathy sing Boom-Chick-a-Bomb!"
"I think coloring the pieces was a good plan. As every piece was colored by someone different, it showed personality. It is a good way to meet other campers."
"We worked as a team with our letters -- just great!"
